How to Order a Loudeac Tile Studio Tile Mural
What is a tile mural? A tile mural is a single image printed
permanently on multiple tiles to produce a unique fusion of beautiful
art and functional interior design. Murals can be installed on a wall
like any other tiles--alone, or as a centerpiece among field tiles. They
can also be mounted on plywood, framed, and hung as wall art.
Loudeac Tile Studio makes murals in ceramic and stone, and soon
will be offering glass tiles. See our Tile Specifications page for prices
and the different tile sizes and materials from which you can have
your mural made.
What locations are appropriate for tile murals? Loudeac art
tiles and murals can be installed in the kitchen as backsplashes,
around fireplaces, on a feature wall, on bar drops, in bathrooms, tile
top tables…your imagination is the limit. We will recommend the
best material and best finish for your intended application.
Do you provide framing services? We occasionally offer some
mounted and framed tile murals in our web store. However, we
typically do not provide these services for custom murals because of
the high shipping costs. We are more than happy to recommend
some drop-in frames designed for the smaller tile murals. Most frame
shops can frame a tile mural, with a picture frame as well.
How do I choose an image for a mural?
LTS has two collections of images:
1) public domain and licensed images of fine art, vintage poster
art, classic tile designs from the Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, and Art
Deco periods, and more. Some of these are shown on our website
(see our Tile Galleries). However, we have many more images in the
categories you'll see here. If you have an interest in a particular image
or type of image, such as Impressionist paintings or vintage French
poster art, please ask and we can provide you with a wider selection.
2) The second consists of original contemporary art created by a
diverse set of artists whose works we have exclusive rights to
reproduce on tile. See our artist gallery pages. Again, we can give
you access to a bigger selection of the images of a particular artist on
request. For murals of original art, we add 15% to the regular price.
Can these tiles be used outdoors? Using a special coating,
applied after the tiles are fired, we can now offer matte ceramic and
stone tiles that have the highest UV protection available for dye-
sublimated tiles. However, as yet, there are no official guarantees
for the lifetime of the tile image when used outdoors. Despite the
claims of many imaged tile producers, the only imaged tile that is
guaranteed to last forever outdoors is a more costly kiln-fired
version. We are now, happily, a dealer of kiln-fired tiles and would
be happy to provide you with tiles and murals for fountains and other
outdoor applications. The price of kiln-fired tiles is necessarily quite a
bit higher than our other tiles.
How will my mural arrive? We ship your tile murals
unassembled. Each tile is numbered and we provide a map to show
you or your installer the order in which the tiles should be laid, along
with tips on handling, installing, and caring for the tiles.
Can you make a tile mural of an image I provide?
We can make murals of any digital image that is large enough (has
enough dpi’s) to maintain its clarity when enlarged to the size of the
area you wish to cover. You can email us an digital photo or image as
an attachment or put it on a CD and mail it to LTS. For best results,
the image file should be at least 360 dpi, and be in jpeg or tif format.
If you have a particular work of art in mind that is not in our
collection, we are happy to work with it as long as we are not
violating copyright.
How large can a mural be?
As large as you want, as long as the image you want is available in an
adequate size. The degree to which images in our collections can be
enlarged varies. Some will look stunning covering an entire wall.
Others may need outside technical work, such as drum scanning, to
meet your needs. We will work with you to create what you envision.
How do I order a mural?
Contact us by email or phone and let us know the dimensions of the
area you wish to cover, the location, your choice of image, and the
tile material and tile dimensions (4” x 4”, 6” x 6”, etc.) you want. We
will determine whether the image can be rendered at your desired
dimensions and provide you with a quote. We will of course be glad
to serve as a design consultant, if you are still exploring or want a
particular kind of image.
Once the specifications of your mural have been decided, we will set
up the image for printing and email you a proof copy for your
approval. Once you are satisified, we will create the mural, pack, and
deliver!
